Announcing Our 2014 Making Kids Count Award Winners!
By
Voices for VA's Kids
We are so excited to share with you all our Carol S. Fox “Making Kids Count” Award winners for 2014!
We received a great number of impressive nominations for both the individual and organizational awards, and despite the great task of naming just one winner in each category, our selection committee has come to its decision.
The committee selected the following individual and organizational honorees for this year’s awards:
- Our individual Making Kids Count honoree is Dr. Joann Grayson, Ph.D. Dr. Grayson is a professor emeritus at JMU and practicing clinical psychologist. During her career, she has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to child advocacy and has initiated more than 11 prevention programs in the Harrisonburg-Rockingham community including a tutoring program that partners JMU students with at-risk children. Grayson also publishes the “Virginia Child Protection Newsletter” distributed to 13,000 agencies and individuals nationwide.
- Our organizational Making Kids Count honoree is the Eastern Regional Child Fatality Review Team, which provides services to families and children who may be involved in the investigation of child deaths. The team includes a director from Champions for Children, an assistant chief medical examiner, a pediatrician and social worker from The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, a retired CASA director, CPS supervisors, a health department nurse, Fetal-Infant Mortality Review nurses, a police captain, a Commonwealth’s Attorney and a representative from Navy Family Advocacy.
Our recipients will receive their awards at the third annual Carol S. Fox MAKING KIDS COUNT Award Reception at the University of Richmond Jepson Alumni Center on Oct. 7. This year also marks Voices’ 20th anniversary celebration, so we hope to see you all there!
We are so fortunate to announce that Virginia Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam, a pediatric neurologist at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, will be the keynote speaker of the event.
Special gratitude goes to our Title Sponsor for the 2014 event, AT&T.
