Our Priorities
Young people in Virginia must have equitable access to the resources necessary for a lifetime of good health.
Health is determined not only by the absence of illness, but by equitable access to high-quality, affordable, and culturally responsive care. Poverty and structural racism cause devastating health disparities among young people in Virginia. Ensuring the health of our young people requires affordable health insurance coverage, a diverse and well-educated health care workforce, and increased opportunities for access to health care.
Coverage
- Fund “Cover All Kids” and expand comprehensive and affordable health insurance coverage to all children in Virginia regardless of immigration status.
- Ensure children have access to uninterrupted health insurance coverage during the most critical years by providing Medicaid/FAMIS Continuous Eligibility up to age 6.
Workforce
- Pursue pathways to sustainable financing through Medicaid for Community Health Workers (CHW).
- Increase Medicaid reimbursement rates so that more providers are able and willing to accept Medicaid patients.
- Establish an implicit bias training mandate for all professionals licensed by the Boards of Medicine and Nursing.
Access to Care
- Increase access to health care services by leveraging the strength of community based organizations and providers.
- Strengthen funding and support for critical safety-net service providers.
