Change in Leadership at Voices

By Voices for VA's Kids

John Morgan, a prominent child advocate and Executive Director at Voices for Virginia’s Children, is leaving the organization after five and a half years at the helm. Morgan, a child psychologist who formerly served in leadership positions in the mental health field, came to Voices in 2006 and was named Executive Director in 2008. “It has been a great privilege to lead this organization,” said Morgan in announcing his departure. “I will always be grateful that the board gave me this opportunity, and I’m especially thankful to all those who helped me and Voices during my tenure. Nothing in my entire career has been as meaningful as coming to work every day for the past seven years knowing that my efforts could make life better for thousands of children.”

Voices is a statewide, independent and non-partisan policy and advocacy organization which promotes public policies to improve the lives of Virginia’s children. Morgan is credited with strengthening key partnerships and increasing Voices credibility and influence with legislators and public officials on both sides of the aisle. “That so many legislators and policymakers view Voices and its staff as the source for objective, non-partisan input on kids’ issues is a tribute to John’s leadership and impact,” according to board chair Stacy Hawkins Adams.

Morgan’s departure is effective Aug. 1, though he will be on leave starting June 17. He intends to stay in the child advocacy field. “I’m not leaving the fight,” said Morgan, “but I’m ready to scale back a little to a part-time role where I can continue to help the cause.”

Margaret Nimmo Crowe, Voices’ Policy Director, will serve as acting Executive Director while a replacement is recruited. She can be reached at margaret@vakids.org.
