On March 24th, 2014, Voices’ Executive Director Margaret Nimmo Crowe and Amy Atkinson from the Commission on Youth discussed Virginia’s approach and the methodologies utilized in identifying, evaluating, collecting and disseminating evidence-based treatments for children’s mental health disorders, at the 2014 CSA conference held in Roanoke, VA. You can view their entire presentation on advocating for evidence-based mental health treatments for children .

Amy Atkinson talked about the “Collection of Evidence Based Treatments for Children and Adolescents with Mental Health Treatment Needs”.  You can view this collection by following the link: http://vcoy.virginia.gov/collection.asp.  The Collection summarizes current research on those mental health treatments that have been proven to be effective in treating children and adolescents.

Margaret discussed the legislative mandate creating the task, the plan for communicating the benefits of evidence -based practices across the Commonwealth, how collaboration was achieved, and how providers, localities and state agencies were engaged in the process.

Thanks to all who attended the presentation and asked so many great questions.
