Va. Gubernatorial Candidates Respond to Questions on Mental Health

By Voices for VA's Kids

On August 5th, 2013, Voices–along with NAMI Virginia and our sponsoring partners–held a gubernatorial candidate forum on mental health at Collegiate School in Richmond.

Candidates were provided six questions covering a range of topics on both children’s and adult mental health issues ahead of the event. Two of the gubernatorial candidates, Republican nominee Ken Cuccinelli and Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe, presented their responses in a town hall-style forum for a crowd of around 450 people at the event itself.

Both these candidates, as well as Libertarian nominee Robert Sarvis, completed written responses to these same questions, allowing us to share their views on mental health issues with those who were not able to attend the event. (Because the event was planned well in advance of his candidacy, Mr. Sarvis did not present at the event, but was provided with the questions as an opportunity to share his written responses.)

You can access each candidate’s response to the questions on mental health, as the candidates delivered them to us, below:

Ken Cuccinelli, Republican nominee for Governor of Virginia

Terry McAuliffe, Democratic nominee for Governor of Virginia

Robert Sarvis, Libertarian nominee for Governor of Virginia
