Announcing Our 2013 Making Kids Count Award Winners!

Posted:  -  By: Voices for VA's Kids

Voices is beyond excited to announce our Carol S. Fox “Making Kids Count” Award winners for 2013. We received many stellar nominations for the individual and organizational awards; our selection committee certainly had their work cut out for them.

The committee selected the following individual and organizational honorees for this year’s awards:

  • Kate Duvall, of Charlottesville, an attorney with the Legal Aid Justice Center’s JustChildren program. She represents dozens of children in the juvenile justice system, helping with re-entry planning, access to school and mental health treatment and other issues. Ms. Duvall has successfully helped lobby for positive changes in the juvenile justice system.

  • Dr. Douglas E. Pierce, M.D., of Roanoke, played a pivotal role in establishing Child Health Investment Partnership (CHIP). CHIP has provided thousands of economically disadvantaged Virginia kids with health care and family support since it began as a pilot program more than 20 years ago.

  • Child Development Resources (CDR), of Williamsburg, helps babies and toddlers with disabilities or developmental delays walk and talk, eat and play. The staffers help keep those who are at risk for developmental delay safer and healthier. They help parents grow into their role as their child’s primary educator and offer training for other professionals. CDR has been making a difference for more than 45 years and serves about 1,000 children and their families.

These honorees will be presented with their awards at Voices’ second annual Carol S. Fox MAKING KIDS COUNT Awards reception, recognizing their exemplary efforts to improve the lives of Virginia’s children, at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at The Jepson Alumni Center at the University of Richmond. We hope to see you all there!
